HDR stands for high dynamic range and it makes a lot of value in the picture. You either take a lot of photos  in auto-exposure mode and combine them in Photoshop. Or you can take a few photos and adjust the exposure manually then combine in Photoshop

This photo impresses me because it has a really interesting value range as well as a bunch of vibrant colors. It makes new york look more alive.
